Black And White Photography Tips For Beginners

There is no other kind of photograph that gives more elegance and a classic quality to an image quite like black and white. Somehow, through black and white photography, images have more of a history and a sense of mystery behind them. However, capturing stunning black and white images isn’t that simple and easy. Here are some tips that should you consider taking a few shots.

  1. Black and white photographs should have images with strong lines and shapes because they’ll be heavily accentuated by shadow and light.

  2. Turn on the contrast lighting to a high level because black and white images if anything, are images of contrast. These are also connected to the strength of the lines and shapes, as well as the composition of the photo.

  3. Choose subjects that don’t need color to look stunning. Remember not all subjects are created equal. Think about why there are very few, if at all, black and white photographs of flowers.

  4. Always remember, file size doesn’t equal picture quality. A bigger file size only equates to a higher resolution. Try saving your images in RAW format as well for flexibility with editing later on.
